Vinyl Application
Our vinyl lettering and graphics are quick and easy to apply. It’s so easy and the results are amazing!

You will need the following materials: tape measure or ruler, pencil, masking tape or painters tape & applicator (credit card works great!).
Step 1: Prepare Your Surface
  • Regardless of where you are applying your expression, make sure the surface is clean and dry before you begin.
  • Determine where you want your expression to be placed. Use a tape measure/ruler to measure and then lightly pencil small guide-lines on your wall. (Painters tape works well for marking lines also.)
  • Make another small guide-mark indicating where you want the center of your expression.
  • Hint: Taping your expression lightly in place first will help you plan your layout.
Step 2: Prepare Your Vinyl Lettering
  • Some expressions will be shipped in rolls. Unwrap the quote and let it sit flat until it stops rolling up.
  • Lay your expression on a table with the vinyl expression facing up. Rub over the entire surface of your expression with an applicator (or credit card). This will ensure that the lettering adheres to the transfer tape. You may find in more humid areas that the vinyl does not want to stick to the transfer tape. Simply lay the expression back down and rub over it again with your applicator until it sticks to the transfer tape.
  • Using your ruler or straight edge, pencil guidelines on the expression where desired to line up with the guidelines placed on the prepared surface.
Step 3: Position and Tape Vinyl Lettering
  • Match up the guide-lines you penciled on your expression with the guide-lines you penciled on the prepared surface.
  • With the expression in the desired position, place small pieces of painter’s tape or masking tape along the top edge of your expression.
Step 4: Remove Backing Paper
  • Flip your expression up and slowly peel the backing paper away from the transfer tape. (The lettering will adhere to the sticky transfer tape. The backing paper will be blank.) Hint: If working with a large expression, have someone help you hold it into place while installing. This will help avoid getting the expression stuck in a place you don’t want it.
  • Carefully lay the expression back down into position on the wall and smooth the entire surface.
Step 5: Burnish Your Expression
  • Using an applicator or a credit card, firmly rub the entire expression, giving special attention to the edges of each letter.
Step 6: Remove Transfer Tape
  • Slowly peel the transfer tape from the surface.
  • Remove masking tape and erase guidelines.
Step 7: Remove Transfer Tape
  • ENJOY! You did it, way to go!
Additional Information

Installing Overlay
When installing expressions with an overlay, install the underlay first, using the steps above. Then install the overlay, repeating the same steps.

Installing on Newly Painted Walls
Let newly painted walls cure at least 2 weeks before applying vinyl expressions.

Installing Vinyl Lettering on Wood Boards
Once you have prepared your board to its desired finish, make sure it is clean. Follow the steps above.

Removing Your Vinyl Lettering
When you are ready to remove your vinyl lettering, pick at a corner of each letter and pull down slowly. If your expression has been on the wall for a while it may be necessary to warm your lettering slightly with a blow dryer before removal. Hold the blow dryer 8 inches away from the lettering and warm slightly. Be careful not to overheat the paint.

Note: Vinyl lettering will not adhere to stucco or brick like surfaces. Words can be cut apart, stacked in rows, put on an angle, or arranged around and on windows, doors or on most wallpaper. The sky is the limit!!!! WARNING: Vinyl letter is extremely addicting!

Chatty Walls is not responsible for paint damage caused by vinyl lettering. Note: if applied correctly, damage to paint is highly unlikely.
